Rexanna's Story

Rexanna Hawkins, 49, died of lung cancer on June 21, 2006. Never a smoker, Rexanna found out she had lung cancer on April 21, 2006.

Rexanna impacted so many in the short time she was at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. One was Dr. Daniel Karp, her doctor. Dr. Karp was inspired by Rexanna’s sheer enthusiasm and fight to beat the cancer even with the dismal odds. Dr. Don Gibbons now serves as the Medical Advisor to Rexanna’s Foundation.

Rexanna believed God had a plan – she just had no idea at the time what the plan was – but she had faith and hope. Today we have the opportunity for Rexanna’s memory to make a difference in the lives of so many.

Rexanna coached from 1979 until she passed. She coached girls volleyball, track and golf. She worked in school districts in Abilene,TX; Refugio, TX, and finished 18 years as Lake Travis Middle School Athletic Director in Austin, TX.

Known for her fiery spirit, competitiveness, huge heart and loyalty – Rexanna impacted many former students, coaches, colleagues, and friends not to mention the future lives her wishes of giving back will impact through the creation of Rexanna’s Foundation.
